A Cornucopia of Choice
Golf is nearly upon us again and the window of opportunity to travel the world in anticipation of seeking out new and wonderful destinations is ever closer. Whether that is this year or a brighter future for 2022 we can whet our appetites and decide where we want to go so we don’t miss out. Here at Dream Golf Holidays (DGH) we are extremely excited about the future.
Let’s go on a whistle stop tour of some of DGH’s favourite destinations.
This blog will concentrate on Europe and we have the usual suspects of Spain and Portugal as well as more obscure golfing countries to bring to you. However to keep in line with our philosophy of Golf, Culture, Cuisine we have built great relationships with some excellent , more exclusive resorts as well as off the track golf courses.
Spain
There is so much golfing choice in Spain, everybody is catered for.
Some of our favourites are below:-
Andalucia
Villa Padierna
I just really like the feel of this place, you feel like you are in a very special place when you drive down the winding road and the hotel complex opens in front of your eyes.
The standard is very high right across the board. The hotel, golf shop, the food and service and very importantly the golf courses all meet these high standards.
Flamingos and Alferini are both excellent courses. Flamingos providing a stern test and Alferini an even sterner one!
To stay and play at the resort is a real treat and you would have an excellent experience on your return from golfing abroad.
Finca Cortesin
Luxury personified. Finca Cortesin continues to set levels of quality that matches the whole surroundings. Fantastic buildings and accommodation. Restaurants serving food of the highest order and a golf course that is up there with the best in terms of design and maintenance. You don’t hold the Volvo Masters and now the Solheim Cup if you do not tick every box.
Indulge yourself in quality, you will thoroughly enjoy.
La Cala
Set in the hills above Mijas with fantastic views across Andalucia La Cala is a perfect destination. Staying in a quality resort with three golf courses sounds like heaven to me. And you are only 30 minutes from Malaga airport!
The three courses are excellent to play, meandering in to the hills and the valleys around the resort. All the courses have their subtle differences which adds to the variety.
And then to sit on the wonderful balcony with the drink of choice in hand is the ideal way to dissect how you’ve just played.
Golfing bliss.
Costa Brava
Hotel Peralada Spa & Golf
What a wonderful setting this resort provides, a fantastic hotel of 5* quality, an excellent golf course on site and many more within an hours drive including the very special PGA Catalunya.
As part of the resort there is the Castle which is a few minutes away from the hotel. There is a casino, restaurants and indeed a word famous vineyard and cellar. Everything that DGH is about.
Somewhere different, away from the main resorts, a perfect retreat.
Costa Dourada
Lumine Resort
Two amazing 18 hole golf courses, used for the European Tour Qualifying School and a 9 hole course, The Lumine Golf courses provides plenty of golfing options for the discerning golfer.
Accommodation is separate to the golf courses but there are some fantastic options either in Salou or the surrounding area.
This is a golfing option to certainly be taken up, the quality of the courses and excellent layouts provide a perfect golfing experience.
An example of the quality of accommodation is the Hotel Mas Passamaner, a wonderful property of the highest order and just 25 minutes from the Lumine golf courses.
Portugal
Monte Rei
Again so much choice but our favourite is Monte Rei, this is a special place with a Jack Nicklaus Signature course to boot. Accommodation is villa style set around the resort which provides a very relaxed environment. The food choices are varied including Michelin star standard cuisine.
A visit to Monte Rei will provide for you that 5* luxury service and quality that we all deserve, especially after the past year!
Lisbon
The Lisbon area is definitely a place to explore for golf with Cascais being a hotbed for golf and accommodation in this area.
Playing courses such as Oitavos, Praia del Rey, West Cliffs, Bom Susseco to name but a few you can be assured you will never be disappointed.
Accommodation choice is extensive with a particular favourite being the Oitavos Hotel.
Italy
Italy is going to be boom time for golf over the next few years with the holding of the Ryder Cup now in 2023.
I just want to highlight one very special course and area.
Antognolla and Umbria
The Antognolla Golf course is a stunning track, set in the most beautiful surroundings with history and culture around every corner. Quite simply an amazing place to stay and play. If on a visit you only played Antognolla Golf course numerous times you would not be disappointed.
The accommodation in the area is superb and unique, staying in converted farmhouses and historical buildings and embracing the wonderful food and wine of the area.
This has to be ticked off your list, it is too good to miss.
A little further afield in Europe
And why not try something different in countries where golf hasn’t been noted as a hotbed but are certainly rising stars in the delivery of first class golfing resorts.
Greece
Costa Navarino, lauded as the luxury golf resort in Greece this resort really does meet all the requirements of DGH. Two golf courses, the Dunes and the Bay, excellent bedroom accommodation and cuisine, all aspects of your stay are wonderfully catered for. And to top it off the resort sits on the edge of the Ionian sea. Truly spectacular.
Bulgaria
The Pirin Resort
Situated in the mountains where you could ski and play golf in the same day!
The Lighthouse Resort
Nestled on the white cliffs overlooking the Black Sea this resort provides stand out luxury in a very special area of the world.
Both these resorts provide the luxury you would expect from a 5* resort with all the amenities at your disposal to ensure a wonderful time is had.
Excellent golf is to be had at both resorts as well as the opportunity to indulge in spa treatments and sightseeing around these historic areas.
In summary
We will keep whetting your appetite for golf abroad in readiness for the doors to reopen fully and great times to be had again. If this past year has taught us one thing it is not to miss out on the opportunities we have to travel and play golf in amazing places around the world.
We are here waiting when you are ready.
Yours in golf.
