A little Scottish trip
How good was this trip…. VERY
With having limited opportunity to go abroad golfing at the moment our home shores are becoming more and more popular and none more so than Scotland.
Along with 5 friends from my golf club The Bradford Golf Club we headed to Scotland for a short break.
We played 4 courses, 3 in Scotland and one in Northumberland on the way home.
There was a mixture of links and Heathland golf, it is easy to forget that Scotland also has some wonderful inland courses.
The first course played was Downfield Golf Club on the outskirts of Dundee. This was a pleasure to play. In the past it has been an Open Qualifying course when the Open has been held at Carnoustie so it has stature and history to go alongside a really interesting track. When you come away from a course you know it’s been a good one when you can remember most of the holes. This is one that will last in the memory.
The next course was Leven Links, what a beauty this is. Traditional Scottish links golf course built in between the dunes and definitely within sight of the sea. We caught it on a great day, the sun was out and just enough wind to get your attention.
There is a great variety of holes and like any links course accuracy and invention is the key. And again, and it is becoming a theme Leven is also a Open Qualifying course.
The 18th hole is a real beaut, the second shot, still long for most golfers is over the creek like Carnoustie, you’ve just got to go for it haven’t you!
The third course is one of my favourites, an inland heathland course of great stature and yet again an Open Qualifying course. This is Ladybank, a tree lined extremely well designed course and a real pleasure to play.
There’s such a variety of holes, the course is very pleasing to the eye and is one you will want to return to.
Seve played this course after playing The Open in Scotland, he loved it, that’s good enough for me!
The final course on the mini trip actually wasn’t in Scotland but in Northumberland. A perfect stop off to break the journey home. The Goswick golf course at Berwick Upon Tweed really is a hidden gem.
It is a proper grown up links course with plenty of muscle. Get this course on a windy day and your golf game will be tested to the full.
Every hole will test you, no hole is the same and some will live long in the memory.
It really is hidden away, down a windy road leading to nowhere but the golf course.
If you get the opportunity get this course ticked off your list, you will be pleased you did.
So they were the 4 courses we played. Where did we stay? Premier Inn @ Glenrothes, absolutely perfect, nothing flash but perfect location, near to the golf courses, good breakfast, very comfy bed what more do you want.
So you can have a great few days, without spending silly money and play on some very good golf courses.
If this whets your appetite let us look at something similar for you. There is lots of choice.
