The Robert Trent Jones Jnr Trilogy
Tuscany - Umbria - Rome
What a fantastic part of the world. Umbria is pretty much a hidden gem as a tourist destination and is in the shadow of Tuscany for sure. A wonderful place though, the food, the people, the history and the golf at Antognolla, an absolute joy to play. Tuscany most of us know about and the richness the area brings, La Bagnaia is a wonderful retreat to relax and play golf. To be able to make trips to places like Pisa and Florence enhance the experience you receive. Then back down to the Rome area to complete the Robert Trent Jones Jnr Trilogy at Terra de Consoli. This makes for a fantastic Dream Golf excursion.
Golf Course in Tuscany, Umbria and Rome
Antognolla Golf
This is a most wonderful golf course in a most idyllic setting. The golf course is really enjoyable to play with such variation of holes and elevations. You will not be disappointed. The views are magnificent, you feel so secluded on the golf course with it being surrounded by hills. The quite recently built practice area is very good and the restaurant served truly exquisite Umbrian food.
There are lots of changes afoot, a new clubhouse and locker rooms for one and the biggest development is the Castle on the hill which is being converted in to a luxury hotel. Watch this space!
Royal La Bagnaia Golf
Set within the La Bagnaia resort this is a wonderful secluded retreat in which to play golf. If you are not relaxed for your round then there is something wrong!
The course is a strategic course with plenty of imaginative bunkering to make you think your way around the course.
The greens were immaculate when I played and the whole set up was a pure joy.
The clubhouse was extremely welcoming and provided excellent views across the whole of the course.
Terre de Consoli Club
The third of the Robert Trent Jones Jnr trilogy in this area. Again a wonderful track to play with a tough start over water for the first two holes. The course meanders up through the hills on the front 9 then drops back down to the clubhouse to a sneaky island green par 3. Again the back 9 takes you back up in to the hills before returning the loop back to the clubhouse. There are some really interesting holes here using the contours of the land to the fullest.
Again at this course there are big plans being implemented. A new very modern clubhouse has been built, it wasn’t fully open when I visited, but it will be extremely nice when completed and the restaurant is fully furnished.
A luxury hotel and spa is also being built.
